What's the best companion for PvE for a max lvl Musketeer?

Many folks like Chantal, and she does have a lot going for her.

Depends on your playstyle and the specific battle, but on my Musketeer (who uses a 4 range weapon) my main team is Chilam Bak, Masamune Goto and Bonnie Anne. Other popular ones include Chantal Livingstone, Ridolfo Capoferro, El Toro, Old Scratch, Ratbeard, Nausica, Zeena and Contessa Argento.

Are any Armada companions good for a max lvl Musketeer?

The Haywire Battle Angel could be useful, with a mix of swash and shooty attacks.

I use Bonnie, Chantal, and Louie quite a bit, but change things up depending on the enemies and the board.

Louie = more bombs and a trap
Bonnie = Scatterblast for damage and reduce a/d on groups of enemies.
Chantal = agility buff, sniper and critical hits
Nausica = great movement

But sometimes you want non-musk companions, to enhance your own abilities, or do things your pirate can't

Old Scratch = Buff for bombs & flames, summons
El Toro for his buff and stabbing attacks

Various Bucc companions for physical attacks & stopping power
